Dad's Army - Don't Tell Em Pike!

Eamonn Holmes delivered his verdict as he tuned into the classic BBC sitcom, Dad's Army. The popular show, which first aired in 1968 and concluded in 1977, was based around the Home Guard during the Second World War.

The GB News presenter, 65, made a candid confession on X, formerly Twitter, which left his supporters all saying the same thing.

The broadcaster admitted he had never watched Dad's Army as a child despite the show's popularity and the sitcom's ability to still draw in audiences five decades on from when it first launched.

Much to Eamonn's delight he was in for a treat on Sunday night (December 30) as an episode of the popular sitcom aired on BBC Two.

He tweeted: "When I was a Kid I never watched Dad’s Army. My loss but it’s meant subsequent years of laughter and appreciation. Tonight’s on @BBCOne was 'The Love of Three Oranges.' What actors, what characters, what scripts and what Oranges!"

Social media users flocked to comment on the post, as one said: "I'm obsessed with Dad's Army, over 80 episodes of comical genius. The movie is good too."

Another tweeted: "You can get the entire Dad's Army on dvd and it's not that expensive either, we have the set and it ws a joy to go through. They don't make 'em like that anymore sadly."

"You’re so right. They are all so brilliant," a third shared.

A fourth commented: "I used to watch it as a kid but never appreciated how good it was until I was quite a bit older."

A fifth tweeted: "I used to watch it as a kid, and it's still as funny today as it was back then!"

Despite having to play catch up in his adult years, Eamonn has become well versed with the sitcom as he applauded the show which aired over the festive period.

Elsewhere, a handwritten script for the much-loved sitcom Dad's Army is due to be auctioned and could fetch up to £5,000.

The script, called "Sgt - Save My Boy!2 and written by the show's co-creator David Croft, was originally gifted to a student on work experience in the 1990s before being unearthed on Antiques Roadshow earlier this year.

It will be sold at Auctioneum in Bristol on December 31.
