Antiques Road Trip: Philip Serrell gets slapped by insulted seller

Antiques Road Trip's Philip Serrell faced a shocking moment when an insulted seller gave him a stinging slap after a heated haggle over a wooden table.

While on their treasure hunt through Yorkshire and Derbyshire, Roo Irvine and Phil took a detour to Greenwich, London, for an auction.

Phil strayed from the path in hopes of purchasing a horse but ended up offending a farmer with his blunt remarks about needing a "translator" to understand him.

In a confused retort, Phil said: "Do you know what? I often think I need a translator. You've done what? At me? That's V? Right... okay? I want to tip it up."

He then disparaged the farmer's table: "Yeah, there you go. That's an old top on four brand new legs. Things have potential in life. But it's not worth a fat lot."

The farmer, taken aback by the insult to his table, protested: "No? Get away man. It's authentic!"

Unmoved, Phil offered: "Authentic? I'll make you one bid for it and that's it. You can have £20. Look at this!"

The farmer, incensed by Phil's audacity, countered: "Oh man. This could keep us warm for three days. Here, no messing about! Yes or no. £30 for it. I thought £50. That's what I thought."

Phil, sticking to his guns, proposed: "I'll give you £25 for it and that's the end of it. Shake my hand," which led to the farmer delivering a resounding slap to his hand.

Philip exclaimed in pain, responding: "No need for that! What did you do that for?" while Tim Wonnacott, the voiceover, wryly commented: "He had his reasons."

Back in August, Philip issued an update on his health after sparking concern during an episode of Bargain Hunt.

He wrote: "For those who enquired after today’s @BBCBargainHunt - the answer is I now have a new hip and am turbo-charged!"

After having a hip replacement in 2023, Philip shared on X: "Thank you to those that asked – nothing major but I am the proud owner of a new hip."
