GMB: Emotional Nancy Dell'Olio breaks down in interview about Sven
Nancy Dell'Olio was moved to tears on Good Morning Britain as she recounted the heart-wrenching final days of her ex-partner, Sven-Goran Eriksson. Speaking to Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins, Nancy reflected on her time with the former England manager, including their initial meeting while she was still married.
In a poignant admission during the video interview, an emotional Nancy shared the last words she exchanged with Sven prior to his passing from pancreatic cancer: "It's hard pretending that you don't know he was about to die."
Struggling to maintain composure, Nancy spoke of her unwavering hope even in his dire health: "I just said he was trying to put in the effort to say that he was fine on the phone because most of the time he was not answering or at treatment.
"I never thought that he was about to die. I always believed there would be some sort of miracle."
Opening up further, she described the struggles Sven faced during his treatment and the strength they both exhibited: "It was hard, but he sounded so relaxed and we were laughing and he would just say 'I feel okay'."
With a sense of longing, she reminisced about wanting to spend more precious moments together: "It was quite difficult to even be talking but I tried to be fearless and see how he was. I wanted to get together for another dinner."
Nancy's life intersected with Sven's in 1998 while he was at the helm of Rome's Lazio football club, reports the Mirror.
The couple began their love story three years prior to his appointment as England manager. Nancy relocated with Sven to London when he took up the prestigious role, but their relationship was soon rocked by his affair with Swedish TV host Ulrika Jonsson in 2002.
