BBC Breakfast: Sally tells Ben he needs to 'get out more'

BBC Breakfast presenter Ben Thompson admitted: "We're going to regret this," as his co-host Sally Nugent had a "dangerous" request from viewers.

On Wednesday's instalment of the show (August 28), stand-in host Ben was taking up Jon Kay's regular spot during his summer break, when the conversation turned to dog agility courses.

Sally turned to viewers to get their own thoughts, asking: "Have you got a dog with any interesting skills? We would love to hear from you!"

Ben chimed in: "We're so going to regret this."

As Sally admitted: "Pretty dangerous question. I don't know why we're asking that, but..."

Ben encouraged: "But do send them in!" as Sally tried to steer fans in the right direction, elaborating: "Any good tricks, basically. Send us a message, a photo – the details are on your screen right now – of your dog maybe doing a particularly clever trick. Or being obedient!"

It came straight after a report on a dog named Hope, whose owner Jason had entered into the Dog Agility World Championships in Belgium.

But Ben was "cynical" about the report, admitting: "Actually I'm really impressed. I was a bit of a cynic about that, but that's actually a good thing. That was spot on."

It comes after Ben was forced to apologise to weather expert Carol Kirkwood on Tuesday’s show, as he told viewers: “So now that the Bank Holiday weekend is over, the weather is getting really good.”

But Carol was quick to correct him: “That is not the forecast by the way,” as Ben admitted: “This is why we leave it to the professionals, Carol. That is much more accurate after my terrible forecast, I am sorry."

Thankfully Carol wasn’t offended as Ben stepped into her shoes, telling him: “Bless you, Ben!”

With Jon Kay missing from the programme, fans at home are loving Ben’s presenting style and turned to social media to share their thoughts.

One user said: “The A-team!” as another echoed: “My favourite BBC Breakfast presenters.” And another fan said: “The best and only way to start the day.”

Somebody else wrote: “Great when you're on Breakfast like Nina on too should change presenters round all the time even on Thursday and Friday.”
