GMB panel discusses Olympics boxing controversy

Good Morning Britain angered fans at home with its coverage of the Olympics today. ITV hosts Robert Rinder and Charlotte Hawkins were at the helm of the show as they began discussing some of the latest headlines from the iconic sporting event.

One of the main topics of discussion were how female boxer Angela Carini quit her match after just 46 seconds. She had been in the ring up against 'biologically male' opponent Imane Khelif.

Carini was rocked by two punches from Khelif, saying that she felt it was "impossible to continue". Speaking after the match, the sportswoman said: "I couldn't carry on. I have a big pain in my nose and I said, 'stop'. It's better to avoid keeping going. My nose started dripping from the first hit.

"It could be the match of my life but, in that moment, I had to safeguard my life, too. I felt to do this, I didn't have any fear, I don't have any fear of the ring or to get hit.

"I fought very often in the national team. I train with my brother. I've always fought against men, but I felt too much pain today."

The ITV show welcomed on writer and broadcaster Nels Abbey to join the panel for discussion about the topic. He said: "I'm no expert on this, but I fear that in other places in the world, normally with this sort of built in advantage at sports, we normally call these people a super person.

"A super woman for example. If you're a woman who has that sort of elevated degree of power, be it from testosterone or anything else."

Fans at home weren't impressed with the TV guest's views with some threatening to "switch off". One user on X (formerly Twitter) said: "Had to switch over... blood pressure ! #GMB".

Another furiously added: "Bloke beats up woman in olympics. Vile Sam Smith. Now Alex Beresford. Turning off before I smash my telivision. #GMB."

Others pinpointed that they had someone who "wasn't an expert" weighing in on the matter, as they criticised the panel. One user penned: "Let's discuss items on the show we know nothing about. #GMB 'I'm no expert on TV shows' but do some research."

A second wrote: "'I’m no expert on this' but I’m gonna give you my uneducated view anyway #gmb"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
