Outlander’s Catriona Balfe discusses parenting during filming
Outlander has introduced some memorable and beloved characters over the years, but who is the fans’ favourite?
The Starz drama first began in 2014, introducing viewers to time traveller Claira Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe) who is whisked back to 18th Century Scotland.
There she meets rugged Highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and the pair are married.
After a tragic separation, they eventually reunite and start growing their family, which includes the likes of their daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) and her husband Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin).
Other characters like Young Ian Murray (John Bell), Lord John Grey (David Berry) and Marsali Fraser (Lauren Lyle) have since entered the fray, but who’s taking fans’ top spot?
Outlander’s Instagram page recently posed fans this exact challenge, writing alongside a gallery of the main cast: “Outlander’s iconic characters have made us laugh, cry, and have inspired us hundreds of times over.
“Who’s your all-time favorite character and what have they meant to you?”
Fans have sung the praises of Jamie, Ian and Lord Grey, but it was the series’ heroine Claire who emerged as the clear winner according to the comments.
One devoted viewer replied: “Claire…one of the most unique…iconic female leads in the history of television…particularly as embodied by Caitríona BALFE!”
“Claire has inspired me more than any other fictional character,” a second commented.
“I am pursuing naturopathic nursing because of how she uses herbal remedies to heal and treat her patients.”
Another said: “Claire because I identify with her love, devotion and loyalty for Jamie. They accept each other for who they are and understand each other completely.
“My husband and I had this rare relationship. I was blessed to have him for 43 years.”
“Claire is my favourite character because of her resilience, intelligence, and compassion,” a fourth Claire devotee wrote.
“She navigates complex situations with strength and adaptability, whether in the 18th or 20th century, all while maintaining deep, loving relationships. Her courage and determination make her an inspiring and compelling character.”
And a final fan said: “Claire, strongest female lead in the biz, and caitriona embodies her, she IS her. But i love Jamie so much too wow. You can’t make me choose!!!”
