Cillian Murphy talks Peaky Blinders

Netflix has issued a major update over the Peaky Blinders film in a festive message to fans anticipatinng its release.

They also provided an 'exciting' glimpse of the upcoming production, revealing a fresh image of Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy on set.

The highly-anticipated feature will continue the tale of the notorious Shelby family beyond the six spellbinding seasons of the original series.

While details remain scarce regarding the plot or additions to the cast, speculation is rife that the story could approach the cusp of World War II.

Alongside Keoghan and Murphy, eminent actors such as Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Rebecca Ferguson, and Tim Roth will be gracing the screen.

The Daily Record reports Netflix shared through its social media channels that production has officially concluded alongside a photo showing the lead actors beaming on set.

Netflix's post stated: "And that's a wrap! Filming has now completed on the Peaky Blinders film. Wishing a happy festive break to everyone, especially our wonderful cast and crew."

Entitled The Immortal Man, the movie is crafted by the original show's mastermind Steven Knight, with directing duties handed to Tom Harper who boasts experience from directing parts of the original series and his work on Misfits and This Is England '86.

Fans will have to bide their time a bit longer, as the release date for this much-awaited film is yet to be announced.

Netflix's latest update has been met with great enthusiasm from fans, who have dubbed it 'exciting'. However, a common question seems to be on everyone's lips.

One fan asked: "When is the trailer then? " while another suggested: "Throw it up on the big screen. It's going to shine."

A third simply stated: "One of my favourite shows of all time. So stoked for this movie!".

Before stepping back into his character's shoes for the film, Murphy confessed that he rewatched the show. Speaking to GQ, he said: "Since I started producing I was a producer on Peaky you kind of have to. It kind of takes the curse off of it.

"It was very nice watching it, because it was actually quite a good show. It was also quite heart breaking, because I was watching Helen McCrory, and we lost her.

"But you can distance yourself from it, and look at and say, 'Right, that's the atmosphere we want. That's the look we need, that's the silhouette, and that's the energy we need from it'. We need to turn it up for the movie, obviously."

Peaky Blinders is streaming on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
