Tipping Point host Ben Shephard offered an apology to one of the show's most unfortunate contestants after they left empty-handed.

On Friday's episode, three new players took part, with AJ making it to the final round. However, in a shocking turn of events, he opted to risk his accumulated winnings, only to suffer a heartbreaking loss.

AJ had performed well throughout the show, but his decision to gamble his winnings for a chance to add three more counters to the machine ultimately backfired. Despite having the star counter and the jackpot within reach, his unlucky set of counters failed to push it over the edge, leaving him with nothing.

Viewers were stunned by the outcome, with many taking to social media to express their sympathy for AJ's bad luck. One fan tweeted: "That's unbelievable bad luck #TippingPoint," while another added: "Hahahahaha unluckiest rider in the history of #TippingPoint."

A third wrote: "Oh he's crestfallen... wanted him to get it! #TippingPoint.", reports the Daily Star.

Others praised AJ for his bold move, with one fan saying: "So unlucky, fair play for going for it #tippingpoint," and another commenting: "He did send the last one a little too late #tippingpoint. Really wanted him to do it."

A sixth fan added: "Some say greed, i say well done for trying for your family #tippingpoint."

The programme followed on from a rerun that had aired the previous day, leading to some discontent among viewers over Ben's introductory words.

At the start of the episode, he declared: "Hello and welcome to Tipping Point. It's the start of a brand new series and we've got a brand new set up. Three players will be facing our machine and they are all hoping to win thousands today."

Yet, irate fans lashed out upon realising the show was a repeat broadcast from just days before. An irritated viewer posted: "This was on the other day. There must be thousands of other episodes they could show. Pathetic from @itv #tippingpoint," while another echoed the annoyance with: "This one was on not so long ago. Would you ever stop that ITV? #tippingpoint #ITV."

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
