TM: Wynne Evans opens up about his weight loss

Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has revealed his impressive seven-stone weight loss since rising to fame with the Go Compare adverts.

The Welsh tenor shared his journey on ITV's This Morning, where host Ben Shephard noted: "Let's talk about you've lost a lot of weight. You've lost seven stone now, is it, Wynne?"

To which Wynne responded: "Yeah. If you can believe it, the shape of me. I have. I just did it. One day I thought, 'Right, this is it'. And one day I started doing a little bit of running well, walking, actually, at the start. Then I slowly lost weight. So when the call came from Strictly I thought, 'This is the right spot'."

"Now I can lose a bit more."

Wynne also mentioned that after his radio show ends at noon, he dedicates his time to dance rehearsals until 9pm, describing the routine as "pretty full on", reports Wales Online.

He also opened up about the positive impact of exercise on his mental health, confessing that he had "very dark thoughts" back in 2016, which led him to a life-changing decision. Wynne admitted: "it really affected my mental health, my confidence and my ego - it totally changed me as a person."

"It made me very aware of being alone. And even though I was only 46 I had this irrational fear of dying on my own. I had very dark thoughts and very dark days where I would contemplate all sorts of terrible things."

The celebrity took proactive steps for his mental wellbeing by consulting with a psychiatrist and investing in an exercise bike and a treadmill for home workouts. He shared a valuable tip: "So if I'm at home and feeling a bit down I do 20 minutes on the treadmill and it's the best way to make myself feel brighter. It's like singing, which also releases endorphins in the body."

At one point, balancing the emotional toll from the loss of his parents and the dissolution of his marriage, he peaked at 22 stone. Wynne tied the marital knot with Tanwen in 1999, but after nearly two decades together, in 2016, they chose to part ways.

Wynne first encountered Tanwen on a course with the British Youth Orchestra, where she caught his eye by leaving notes for him. He made his move and popped the question at Cardiff Central Station just as she stepped off a train.

Together, they brought two children into the worlda daughter named Ismay and a son, Taliesin. While he prefers to keep his family life private, he couldn't help but share an endearing moment during his triumphant win on Celebrity MasterChef in 2023, proudly announcing to the audience: "The kids will love this, they'll be like 'Dad! I can't believe you did it when all you cook for us is beans on toast!'"
