Miriam Margolyes is said to have closed the door on the popular BBC period medical drama Call The Midwife. The 83 year old actress, who joined the show as Mother Mildred in 2018, hasn't been seen on screen since 2021.

An insider has now confirmed that she will not be returning to the series. A source revealed to the Daily Star's HotTV column: "Miriam loved being part of the show because she absolutely adores it."

However, they added: "But she is too busy to play Mother Mildred now so there are no plans for her to go back."

The 'Harry Potter' star had previously confessed to the Daily Mirror newspaper that she shares many similarities with her character, Mother Superior, stating: "There are considerable similarities. The directness Mother Mildred has is mine."

She further explained: "I'm very like that. Playing her is what I call NAR - no acting required."

She also expressed her enjoyment of filming the Christmas special in April, saying: "I enjoyed coming back in April to film the Christmas special. We had a great deal of fun, as we always do."

She praised the show for its wholesome content, saying: "It's about decent people doing decent things and that's rather rare on TV these days. It's wholesome but that doesn't mean it's dull - it's gripping."

She concluded by highlighting the importance of such programmes in today's climate, saying: "But when you see a programme about caring, about love and people looking after each other, it feeds the soul."

Meanwhile, the legendary actress Miriam continues her long-time romance with 81 year old Heather Sutherland. Having met on a BBC radio drama set in the late '60s, they've cherished their independence by living separately over the decades.

Now, the pair has plans to bridge the gap and share a home. Revealing their touching goal to SAGA magazine, Miriam said: "We want to live together now because we haven't got long left."

She added ponderously, "She is 81 and am 83, We don't know yet how we are going to do that."
