The Grand Tour: One For The Road - Official trailer

Richard Hammond confessed that he "burst into tears" multiple times during his collaboration with television colleagues Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

The trio are bidding farewell after the final episode of The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, which is set to air this Friday (September 13th). Richard made an appearance on ITV's This Morning to promote the last special, titled One for the Road, but became emotional as he pondered over the tough goodbye.

He explained to presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard: "It is final. We've done it. We always wanted to land it on our own terms; it took off when we started on Top Gear together 23 years ago, and it went berserk. We didn't know it was gonna do that! ".

"So that was out of our control, and we always wanted to make sure that when we ended our partnership together it was on our terms, at a time and a place and in a manner of our choosing, and we have. But having done it, and the film is out Friday, it's really weird. Can't get my head around it."

He added: "I was working in tiny TV and radio until Top Gear, and it was Andy Wilman and Jeremy who gave me the gig. I'll be forever grateful to them for that. And only then did I find myself going to London. So little things like getting the taxi here, and the lady doing my make-up...", reports the Mirror.

TV legend Richard Hammond has opened up about the emotional rollercoaster he experienced as his long-standing partnership came to an end, saying: "I sat there and thought, 'I've been doing this 23 years because of that partnership, and it ends, and I'll never do it again.'

"It's gonna hit... I reckon six months from now I'll suddenly sit up in bed and go, 'It's all over'! " He feigned a breakdown into tears but confessed that there have been plenty of real ones too.

Reflecting on the start of his journey, the star recalled: "When I got the job, they rang and said, 'Do you want to join the team? ' I'll be honest I burst into tears. I said, 'Are you sure, me?'"

He reminisced about celebrating the life-changing moment with his wife, Mindy: "We opened a bottle of champagne and I said to [wife] Mindy, 'This is going to change everything'. And it did. There's been bad bits, but for anybody over 23 years you're going to have good and bad."

The heartfelt segment took a humorous turn when Buddy the dog interrupted, prompting Cat to chide him: "That was a very sensitive bit we were just talking about there. That was supposed to be tears and heartstrings!"

Hammond, imitating the canine's perspective, quipped: "Snacks! Is there a snack in it? Have you got a snack?"
