GMB's Ed Balls admits he doesn't 'have any idea what's going on'

Good Morning Britain got off to an awkward start on Wednesday as a Beetlejuice segment was abruptly interrupted, leaving viewers and hosts alike puzzled.

As part of the show, presenter Richard Arnold, 54, had a pre-recorded interview with Beetlejuice stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder amid the Beetlejuice sequel film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hitting cinemas this week.

Ahead of the video chat, Richard decided to ask the nation to join him in conjuring the titular character, saying: "Come on Britain, summon him with me - Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" However, rather than Beetlejuice appearing, there was silence in the studio, prompting Richard to jest: "Urgh, just you then Ed! Oh well..."

Completely thrown off by the stunt, host Ed, 57, confessed: "I've no idea what's going on!" to which a quick-witted Richard responded: "Remember Ed, this is the bit of the show where you just read the autocue and let me crack on... I was hoping everything would become clear!" as it appeared that Ed had missed his cue in the planned routine.

In other news from the Wednesday broadcast, loyal viewers were delighted to witness Susanna Reid returning as co-host. Her comeback followed a brief absence on Tuesday, during which TV personality Ranvir Singh filled in beside Ed, reports the Mirror.

At the start of the programme, Ranvir filled in for Susanna and explained to viewers why she was missing from Tuesday's episode, saying: "If you're wondering where Susanna is, one of her boys has been taken ill overnight and she needed to stay with him, so we are here for you this morning."

Nevertheless, Susanna made a return to Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, posting a light-hearted backstage photo with co-host Ed. With a bright smile for the camera and Ed making a comical face, Susanna captioned it simply: "MORNING!" to which fans quickly reacted with joy at her return to the anchor's desk.

Previously, Susanna took a well-deserved summer break, bidding viewers farewell in July with the promise of returning in September. During her hiatus, familiar faces like Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins, and Ranvir stepped up to present the popular morning show.

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITVX.
