BBC Weather: Matt Taylor forecasts heavy rain for UK

BBC Breakfast viewers witnessed a major shake-up as two fan favourites were missing from the show. During Wednesday’s episode of the BBC hit programme, show regulars Carol Kirkwood and Sally Nugent were nowhere to be seen.

Instead, Jon Kay took on hosting duties alongside Nina Warhurst, who stepped in for her fellow co-star as they delivered today’s latest headlines.

Beloved weatherwoman, Carol Kirkwood was also noticeably absent from her segment for the second time this week.

Jon and Nine were joined by Matt Taylor, 46, who stepped in to present today’s weather. This is the second time Matt has stepped in for Carol but it’s unknown why she didn’t appear on the BBC show.

Introducing Matt to the show, Nina started off by saying: “We’ve got Matt Taylor today.” Jon jumped in and said: “What more do we need? Morning Matt.”

Just before diving into today’s weather forecast, he said: “I do try my best. I’m still waiting for my star but Good Morning everyone I hope you’re well.”

This is the third time Matt has stepped in for Carol in recent months and he revealed that he will be taking over for the next three weeks.

The TV star took to social media to update his followers as he announced they would be seeing a lot more of him on the Breakfast show.

Matt wrote: “Good morning all! I'll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks. It's a humid start to the week too, with rain for some. Thunderstorms are possible for a few in the Met Office YELLOW warning area.”

It comes as Carol shared a major career announcement away from BBC Breakfast. The weather presenter revealed that she has released her fourth novel titled Once Upon a Time in Venice.

Announcing the exciting news with her followers, she took to X, formally known as Twitter, and shared a photo of her new book.

Alongside the snap, the 62-year-old penned: "So thrilled that my fourth book 'Once Upon a Time in Venice' is out TODAY!!! This would not be happening without all your support. THANK YOU."

Carol already has several books under her belt. In 2021, she released her debut romance novel, Under a Greek Moon, which reached number two on the Sunday Times bestsellers list.

The star later released her second novel in 2022 titled The Hotel on the Riviera followed by her third book, Secrets of The Villa Amore, which came out in July 2023.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer
