A gripping new psychological drama series, Dead and Buried, has just arrived on BBC iPlayer. Penned by Colin Bateman, the series poses the question: what would you do if you came face to face with someone who had caused harm to your family?
The Northern Irish drama centres around young mother Cathy, who unexpectedly encounters Michael, the man who killed her brother Terry two decades ago. Unaware that he's been released from prison and is living in the same town, she creates an online alias to befriend him, initiating a relationship with the man she loathes and embarking on a campaign of harassment and deceit.
As Cathy's obsession intensifies, her dark fantasies of revenge begin to blur with reality as she wages a psychological war to ruin Michael's life. The new psychological thriller Dead And Buried will be broadcast weekly on BBC One Northern Ireland, but the entire series can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.

Dead and Buried is set along the Derry/Donegal border, with the plot moving between these areas. Numerous scenes were shot in both Northern Ireland and various locations across Ireland, specifically in Dublin and Derry.
The Three River Fiction and Vico Films production is set on the border, with filming taking place across various locations on both sides during early 2024. The production received robust support from Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, and Coimisiun na Mean.
Writer Colin Bateman remarked on the setting in a small community, highlighting the increased likelihood of encountering individuals from one's past who have had a significant impact on their life.
Director Laura Way spoke highly of the show's use of locations: "Dead And Buried entertains and compels but Colin's script also explores bigger issues unique to past and present Northern Ireland and its border counties, which gives the show more depth and layers than your typical thriller, exploring themes of cyclical violence and forgiveness."
She added: "Dead And Buried had a distinct tone being set in Northern Ireland on the Northern Ireland border. The characters, the setting, the inherent trauma and history of these two people who share the same traumatic past but from very different perspectives were extremely compelling, not to mention the secondary characters who have their own struggles and distinctiveness."
