BBC star Gemma Oaten has announced that she has quit her presenting role on BBC Radio Humberside just months after accepting the role. The former Emmerdale actress penned an emotional message on her Instagram as she shared her career update.

The 40-year-old started her BBC radio career back in May, but just four months later she shared that she is leaving the role. Making the announcement, Gemma wrote: "What a joy it's been to join [BBC Radio Humberside].

"My last show covering yesterday was a beaut experience, I cried (I'll explain why soon, so much to say & not enough characters to say it - usual for me).

"I started with BBC Humberside in May & can't express how much this job has meant... no actually... means to me! This isn't the end, it's just the beginning."

Gemma went on to thank her BBC colleagues and her family for her support during her time on the show, as she signed off the post, saying: "Right now, all I can reflect on is what I've achieved, the people that have helped me achieve it & the gratitude I feel.

"Never give up on your dreams. Don't let doubt rule you. You have more power & ability than you know. Give it a shot, please."

Fans flooded her with support, with one writing: "You were such a natural. I am sure you will be asked to do it again. I will never forget your laughter. I laughed with you."

Another penned: "You know as one door closes several more open. Well done." And a third added: "Gemma being a radio presenter is yet another string to you talented bow. You are an amazing lady."

Sharing a further update not long after announcing her departure from radio, the actress wrote: "Now back in London, I've had a weekend for myself, and in that time, because I've allowed space for me, I've made so many plans to see those I love.

"I'm the busiest I've ever been & yes I'm under pressure (the challenging kind & the good kind!), however the feeling of warmth I get when time is prioritised mutually is the best tonic & brings a sense of equilibrium.

"I like that. Being balanced has always been a work in progress for me...I have always felt guilt when I stop, so it feels good to be learning how to keep moving, pausing, shifting & all that's in between."

Gemma is best known for playing the role of Rachel Breckle in ITV's Emmerdale from 2011 to 2014. She returned to the soap in early 2015, but departed once again by the end of that year. Then, in 2019, the character was killed off-screen meaning that a return wouldn't be possible for the actress.
