Tom Jones shares advice he received from music legends

The One Show's Alex Jones and Clara Amfo were left stunned after hearing about the conflicting advice that music legend Sir Tom Jones received from two iconic singers. During the programme, they discussed his old friend Elvis Presley and suggested he would have been an excellent mentor for The Voice if he were still alive.

Agreeing that Elvis was good at giving advice, Tom humorously remarked: "Oh yeah, if you could understand him!"When asked about any guidance he received from The King of Rock and Roll, Tom recounted a show he performed in Vegas in 1968.

He shared: "Elvis came to the show and he said to me, 'Great show Tom, but those standards? We leave those to Frank Sinatra'. I loved it when he said 'we'.

"Then, I was talking to Frank Sinatra another time and he said, 'Tom, forget that rock'n'roll stuff you know. You need to do more jazz'."

The Voice star admitted he was astounded by the predicament he found himself in after receiving advice from these two musical giants.

Tom added: "Elvis is telling me to go one way and Frank Sinatra is telling me to go another way.", reports Wales Online.

"So, here I am in the middle, doing both."

Interrupting, his co-star Will. i.am jokingly questioned who was still standing, causing the hosts to burst into laughter as he playfully shook Tom's hand.

The 84 year old and former Black Eyed Peas star appeared on the BBC show to discuss the return of The Voice.

When asked why they keep coming back to mentor emerging talent, Tom confessed: "I like listening to new voices."

"Hopefully, I can give some advice so it's a perfect job for me."

"Well, it's not really a job, it's something that I love to do. I still feel the same way now as I did when we started."

The singing sensation opened up about his passion for mentoring, noting that with fresh talent emerging annually, he relishes the opportunity to guide budding vocalists when possible.
