Peaky Blinders movie update as huge star joins highly-anticipated Netflix project

The highly-anticipated Peaky Blinders movie has had a huge casting update by signing a big name to the already massive star cast.

Netflix has revealed that Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan has joined the cast, although further details on who he will play, are yet to be revealed.

The streaming giant shared the news on Instagram on Thursday with a post that read: "NEWS. Barry Keoghan has joined the cast of the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, alongside the previously announced Cillian Murphy and Rebecca Ferguson."

Fans flocked to the comments in droves to share their excitement as one person expressed: "He definitely has that Peaky Blinders physiognomy."

Another Instagram user enthused: "So far this casting is perfectttt I can so see him fitting in with this setting." (sic)

Somebody else agreed as they wrote: "That is such a good fit!!! Great casting," while yet another added: "Omg this is going to be epic."

Cillian Murphy is reprising his role as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby from the series for the Netflix film, while critically-acclaimed actress Rebecca Ferguson was previously announced as part of the project.

For the unversed, Peaky Blinders followed the rise and fall of the Shelby family as they navigated a world full of radical, social and economical change.

The script has been written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and it will be directed by Tom Harper, who directed episodes from the first season in 2013.

The project was first announced in May this year, with Netflix sharing a picture of the front page of the script.

They wrote: "Tommy Shelby returns. A PEAKY BLINDERS FILM starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix.

"It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me... It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of PEAKY BLINDERS. This is one for the fans." - Cillian Murphy."

A release date for the Peaky Blinders movie is yet to be announced
