The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 trailer

The Lord of the Rings fans shared their excitement today as The Rings of Power season two finally arrived on Amazon Prime. While the second season has garnered a promising reaction from viewers so far, it is currently struggling to land the number one spot on Prime’s Top 10 Most Watched list.

The Lord of the Rings spin-off show has returned following mixed reviews - and many fans are already saying this season is looking better than the last. The series, which is based in JRR Tolkien’s fantastical Middle-earth, is an epic drama set thousands of years before the events in The Hobbit.

IMDb says The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power “follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil”. The cast includes Morfydd Clark, who plays Galadriel, Robert Aramayo, who portrays Elrond, and Ismael Cruz Córdova, who stars as Arondir.

Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Lord of the Rings fans expressed their initial thoughts about season two.

“#RingsOfPower S2 is an absolute masterpiece. Goosebumps…” one fan wrote. While another viewer admits they were left in tears, writing: “This show is AWESOME.” (sic)

“#RingsOfPower has come out of the gate swinging!” a third penned, adding: “Very impressed with episode 1! That opening scene went hard! The pacing for the ep was solid and we got some needed backstory.” (sic)

“So far I like the way they have moved the story along, no long drawn out parts just straight to it!!” another agreed. (sic)

One more chimed in: “I’ve just finished episode 3 WHOA WHAT A PHENOMENAL EP MY FAVOURITE SO FAR.” (sic)

However, not everyone was so complimentary, with one viewer arguing: “Again the biggest problem of #RingsOfPower is pacing, its utter unwillingness to take its time to pay out the story but at the same time to make almost every scene feel deathly slow, dull and facile.” (sic)

While another agreed: “The only people that might enjoy the Rings of Power are casual movie watchers who have seen the movies and just want something to watch related to Lord Of the Rings. For die hard Tolkien fans, this show will be a huge disappointment for sure.” (sic)

Those About To Die

However, the response from fans seems generally positive so far, while the reviews from critics remained fairly mixed.

It is interesting to note The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is still yet to bag first place on Prime’s Top 10 Most Watched list.

Instead, Amazon’s Those About To Die has managed to hold onto the top spot, having already gained a large viewership.

The show, set in 79 A.D. Rome, explores the dirty business of entertaining the masses, with the bloody games of the coliseum featuring heavily.

The first three episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two are available to stream on Amazon Prime now.
