Shaun Evans is set to star in the thrilling serial killer drama Until I Kill You, which follows the real life events of Delia Balmer.
The gripping true story of Delia, a woman who narrowly escaped death at the hands of her murderous partner John Sweeney, is set to be dramatised.
Anna Maxwell Martin, known for her BAFTA-winning performances in Motherland and A Spy Among Friends, will portray Delia Balmer, while acclaimed actor and director Shaun Evans, of Endeavour and Vigil, will take on the role of killer John Sweeney.
The drama, titled Until I Kill You, is based on Delia Balmer's autobiographical book Living with a Serial Killer and has been penned by Nick Stevens, the writer behind The Pembrokeshire Murders.
In 1991, Delia was leading a nomadic and solitary existence in London, working as an agency nurse. Her life took a dark turn when she met John Sweeney in a local pub, initially drawn to his artistic and anti-establishment persona.

However, as their relationship progressed, Sweeney's darker side emerged, culminating in a series of brutal attacks on Delia. During one such attack, he chillingly confessed to murdering his ex-girlfriend and disposing of her body in an Amsterdam canal.
Despite being arrested, Sweeney was released on bail due to a disastrous oversight by the court, which failed to recognise the extent of his dangerousness. He immediately sought out Delia and subjected her to a terrifying near-fatal assault.
Although Delia survived, Sweeney managed to evade capture and vanished. Delia, deeply affected by the trauma and injuries inflicted by Sweeney, courageously attempts to rebuild her life.
However, seven years later, Sweeney is arrested for the murder of another girlfriend in North London, shattering Delia's fragile recovery once again. She is forced to confront Sweeney in court, her testimony crucial to the prosecution's case against him.
This is a tale of one woman's remarkable determination to survive through physical and emotional suffering, despite the shortcomings of the institutions that were supposed to protect her.
Until I Kill You tells the harrowing story of Delia's ordeal at the hands of John Sweeney and her traumatic journey through the police and criminal justice system as they strive to prosecute him for his crimes.
True crime drama Until I Kill You will air later in the year on ITV.
