My Lady Jane: Emily Bader stars in trailer for Prime Video series

Fans of the Amazon Prime historical fantasy series My Lady Jane were left disheartened upon learning that the show would not return for a second season. Prior to the announcement of its cancellation, lead actress Emily Bader shared her visions for the future of the series.

Bader, who plays the central role of Jane, had expressed her belief in the perfect match between Jane and Lord Guildford Dudley (portrayed by Edward Bluemel), stating they are "made for each other". However, with the premature end of the series earlier this month, the unfolding of their romance remains untold.

Despite the setback, 27-year-old Bader has offered insights into the potential developments and what initially attracted her to the fantasy romance. After the conclusion of the first season, which saw Jane and Guildford finally liberated, she revealed her hopes for their next chapter.

In a conversation with People, Bader commented: "It's really interesting because I think for the first time in her life she is free, but she's also not at all. Because she's left her family and her sisters in the grasp of someone who is ferociously angry with her," referring to the wrathful Queen Mary (played by Kate O'Flynn), who ascends to the throne after failing to execute Jane in the season finale.

When discussing the possibility of Jane vying for the throne again, she remarked: "I think Jane would make a great queen. It's always the people that don't want it that actually are right for the job."

Bader also delved into the dynamics of Jane and Guildford's relationship, reports the Mirror.

"I love the fact that we ended on Guildford being able to be in the daylight," she expressed. "I think that's so beautiful," she added.

"I'd love to see them be able to sort of find each other now that they're fully open, but also I imagine that there's got to be some tension, because Jane is very strong-willed and she's not going to necessarily put their relationship to the forefront of her priorities if something that is as dire as the survival of her family on the line.

"I think they're made for each other," she further commented, referring to Jane and the Ethian character.

My Lady Jane unfolds in a fantastical version of 16th-century England, where humans coexist with shape-shifters who can morph into either people or animals.

The narrative follows the journey of ordinary human Jane Grey (Emily Bader), who develops empathy for the oppressed shape-shifters. This becomes a challenge for the ruling classes as Jane ascends to power.

Despite critics' appreciation, the series failed to make it into Nielsen's top 10 streaming charts in the month following its release, which often indicates whether shows will be renewed.

The discontinuation of My Lady Jane, crafted by Gemma Burgess, was initially reported by Deadline.
