BBC viewers furious as they're unable to stream much-loved series: 'It's a British show!'

Viewers of the BBC series, Industry, are expressing their frustration as they struggle to watch the new season, despite its release in the United States.

The show, which premiered in 2020, follows a group of young graduates vying for permanent positions at Pierpoint & Co, a prestigious London-based investment bank.

The cast includes Marisa Abela, Myha'la Herrold, David Jonsson and Harry Lawtey, with Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington joining the third season as Henry Muck, CEO of a green tech energy company. The second season aired in 2022, and the third has just been released in the U.S.

However, UK fans are disgruntled after learning they won't be able to watch the eight episodes for some time, with no confirmed air date. All they know is that Industry season three will be available to stream on HBO in the US from 11 August and on the BBC in the UK later in the year.

One viewer, expressed her astonishment on social media, saying: "Industry is set in London with a mostly British cast and British creators, it's genuinely astounding that *we* get it like a year after they do in the US."

Another user agreed, commenting: "This feels so deranged when it's a British show lol." A third shared their impatience, stating: "Grrrrr, I feel like we've waited an age already!"

While another onliner goer expressed frustration, stating: "I understand there may be exclusivity rights and all, but I feel like content should be globally available by default in 2024. Netflix has been doing it for years. Heck, even BBC are doing it with Doctor Who."

Another person penned: "Genuinely cannot understand how the BBC have not gotten this together. It's a U.K. show? Eps are dropping weekly? Make it make sense."

Other viewers labelled the situation as "annoying", "absurd" and "unfair". The previous season of Industry concluded with Harper (Herrold) being dismissed for falsifying her educational background on her CV to secure a position at Pierpoint.

The official synopsis hints: "In season three, as Pierpoint looks to the future and takes a big bet on ethical investing, Yasmin, Robert, and Eric find themselves front and centre in the splashy IPO of Lumi, a green tech energy company led by Sir Henry Muck, in a story that runs all the way to the very top of finance, media, and government.

"Since leaving Pierpoint, Harper is eager to get back into the addictive thrill of finance and finds an unlikely partner in FutureDawn portfolio manager Petra Koenig."

Joseph Charlton, writer and consulting producer, recently told Digital Spy that it was "fair to say the series won't shy away from acknowledging the real world, and things that are present in the news".

"I think what's unique and good about the show... in the first series, there are references to Brexit. In the second series, there's COVID. In the third series, there'll be contemporary issues, too," he added.
