Andrew Morton, biographer and author of Diana: Her True Story, said he doesn't see any "movement whatsoever towards a reconciliation" between the Prince of Wales and his brother Prince Harry. The Royal expert said that if any year "could have brought about a reconciliation with King Charles suffering from cancer" this would have been the year.
Appearing on Times Radio, Mr Morton was asked by Theo Usherwood if there was any chance of the two brothers reconciling as Prince Harry turns 40 next month.
He said: “I think that Harry and Meghan have worked out a life together. They have their own agenda and they have their own causes. And I don't see any movement whatsoever towards a reconciliation.
“I would say that they've got an established pattern in their lives. And if any year could have brought about a reconciliation with the King suffering from cancer, and we all know about Kate and her medical problems, this would be the year to have done it.
"But there's obviously been no movement in that regard.”
Theo then asked how Princess Diana would have felt about the split between the two brothers. Mr Morton replied that there was “no question at all in my mind” that the late princess would have been “very upset”.
The biographer continued: “She would have been very upset and would have worked towards a reconciliation between them. And I think Harry himself has said that if his mother had been alive, things might've been different.
“Diana always said to me, and she was quite clear about this, that she anticipated Harry as being, as it were, William's wingman. As far as she was concerned, he was there to support the future Prince of Wales.
“I mean, Harry went down the same road as other spares. It's not the first time this has happened. Princess Margaret, for example, was the spare to Her Majesty the late Queen.

“So, it's not an unusual thing for there to be a spare and to come to terms with the fact that they're always in the shadow of their big brother or big sister.”
Asked if Harry had failed to understand that he was "the spare", Mr Morton surmised: “He's misunderstood the difference between popularity and position. And his position is as number two to his brother. And that will always be like that.
“He may have been more, for a time, more popular when he and Meghan first strode out together. But popularity changes.”
It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been in Colombia on a four-day tour. Colombia's vice-president, Francia Marquez, said she was inspired to ask Harry and Meghan to visit the country after being moved by their Netflix documentary.
"I saw the Netflix series about their life, their story and that moved me and motivated me to say that this is a woman who deserves to come to our country and tell her story and her exchange will undoubtedly be an empowerment to so many women in the world," Ms Marquez said.
