Return To Paradise trailer in ABC spin-off season

The much-anticipated trailer for Death in Paradise's spin-off, Return to Paradise, has been released, showcasing the show's first female detective in thrilling action.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Dolphin Cove in Australia, the six-part series introduces viewers to "golden girl" Mackenzie Clarke, portrayed by Anna Samson.

The former London Metropolitan police officer is known for her intuitive detective skills and a knack for solving seemingly unsolvable cases.

Mackenzie, who left her hometown six years prior with a promise never to return, finds herself drawn back to Dolphin Cove amidst unresolved issues and lingering questions. Despite her successful career, she is met with a cold reception from the townsfolk, mirroring her own reluctance to be back.

The series' trailer opens with Mackenzie arguing in a taxi as she makes her way back home, declaring: "I am a paying customer," only to be met with the cab driver's exasperated response: "I can't believe you came back."

She later reflects on her strained relationship with the town, saying: "It has been six years and no one here still likes me," reports Wales Online.

A sudden murder case emerges when a body is discovered on the beach, leading to scenes featuring actor Lloyd Griffith in the role of a lead detective.

As the local police consider calling for additional help, Lloyd's character confidently asserts: "We don't need another detective."

Tensions rise in the upcoming series 'Return to Paradise' as the detective and Makenzie lock horns, with him questioning her presence: "Excuse me, who are you because this is official police business?"

Makenzie, the new female lead, reveals her antisocial tendencies, confessing: "I am not a people person," and chillingly adds: "The only thing that makes sense....is murder."

The series synopsis for 'Return to Paradise' teases: "When a murder takes place in Dolphin Cove, Mack can't help but put her inspired detective brilliance to good use and determines, despite her reservations, that she needs to make the best of it."

It continues to hint at personal drama: "Including tying up the loose ends with the man she left at the altar six years ago."

Sue Deeks, the Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, expressed her excitement about the show, saying: "Everything we all love about Death in Paradise, the humour, the beautiful scenery, the likeable characters, the ingenious plots - now in a fabulous Australian setting."

She eagerly anticipates the audience's reaction: "I cannot wait for BBC viewers to be introduced to Detective Mack and the good (and not so good! ) folk of Dolphin Cove. What a treat we have in store!"

While the UK air date remains uncertain, audiences in Australia can look forward to 'Return to Paradise' hitting screens on ABC come September.
