Weather: Carol Kirkwood on possible hottest day of year so far

BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirwood has issued some grim weather news for some areas. She took to X to ensure people were aware the Met Office had issued weather warnings.

"Some heavy thundery downpours around this morning. The Met Office has 2 yellow warnings in force atm. The one across N Ireland expires at 0700. The other across Scotland and N England at 1300. Not everyone will see one, but if you do you will know about it," she wrote.

@Jillington_bear was caught up in the storms and commented: "The noise in SW Scotland is insane. I’ve never heard anything like it! It’s like an ongoing, incredibly loud, rumble. Woke me up 20 mins ago and still going."
@CarolKfanclub also confirmed: "It's monsoon weather up my end at the mo Carol xx" @rob2wheels lamented: "Yes I see that yesterday not good."
However @bryan_hepworth hadn't encountered any foul conditions and lamented the fact writing: "Not a peep and me disappointed - roll on the perseids."

Menwhile @RoyLlowarch had been fortunate with the conditions in his area.
"Good morning Carol It's already feeling very warm down here in the Portsmouth area I hope the folks in Northern Ireland, Northern England and Scotland get some decent weather today too#BBCBreakfast," he wrote.
Carol later took to the social media site again to share some further worrying weather news.
"There have been over 5,000 lightning flashes in the last 24 hours in the UK.... the majority of which were in the north," she informed her 252.7 thousand followers.

The news of the inclement weather didn't impress her BBC Breakfast co-stars and Carol was forced to pause the show to apologise to them at one point.

After delivering the weather forecast for the week, Sally Nugent said to Carol about the upcoming rain: "You're disappointing me now, Carol. I thought we had summer."

Carol laughed and paused before issuing an apology: "Sorry, Sal."

"I know it's not your fault," Sally interrupted as Carol added: "I'll go and get rid of it."

"If anyone can you can," the BBC host went on as Jon Kay chipped in."Delete it, pretend."
