GMB: Kate Garraway caught using phone and blames 'home crisis'

Kate Garraway confessed she needed to use her phone on Good Morning Britain to deal with a "home crisis".

The 57-year-old was joined on the breakfast programme by her usual co-host Richard Madeley and also TV star Richard Arnold - who were both making jibes about the mum-of-two using the device while the cameras were rolling.

TV veteran and former This Morning star Richard announced to everyone: "She's on her phone," which caused a lot of noise and laughter in the studio.

Mortified, Kate confirmed her attentions had been elsewhere as she quickly tucked her phone out of view, before explaining that she'd needed to assist with "misbehaving".

After the sad loss of Kate's late husband Derek Draper, in January of this year, she's been left needing to juggle the difficult balance of work and home and it proved to be hard to manage both on Monday (August 12).

Derek's health dramatically declined after he contracted Covid-19 in March 2020, with Kate, his doting wife, holding his hand until he took his very last breath. The TV star has since had to find her way as a solo parent to their two teen-children Darcey, 18, and son Billy, 14.

Given her reaction on GMB today, it would seem her children aren't exactly giving her an easy ride. After Madeley rumbled her phone antics on-air an embarrassed Kate put her hands to her face.

She gasped: "Do you know what, I was just dealing with a little home crisis, a little bit of kids getting up to no good." The TV star added: "You know what it's like," as her on-screen presenters appeared not to understand.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the programme, Kate seemed to be visibly upset as she struggled to fight back tears. She appeared to be fighting back her own emotions as she addressed the Southport murders in a heartfelt tribute.

"Good morning. The parents of Alice da Silver Aguiar, one of the three girls murdered at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport called for no more violence at an emotional funeral for their daughter," explained Kate as her voice seemed shakey.

Although she did manage a smile, viewers did notice that she had been struggling to keep it together. One viewer wrote on X: "Bit late this morning so have rewound #gmb to the start and bless Kate, you can tell she's trying not to cry when talking about that little girl from Southport. So so so sad."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV, from 6am.
