This Morning panel share update on Southport attack victims

This Morning's Craig Doyle brought the ITV programme to a standstill with an important update on the harrowing Southport stabbings.

In a shocking incident, three young girls lost their lives after a 17-year-old male launched an attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance club, leaving others injured and several children in hospital. On Friday (August 2), Craig addressed the "tragic" situation, which had sparked nationwide riots due to false information about the attacker circulating online.

Craig broke into the conversation to deliver some "good news" to Gyles Brandreth, Josie Gibson, and Tom Swarbrick announcing that some of the wounded children have been discharged from hospital. Two of the kids caught up in the dreadful knife assault have now been allowed to leave Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Craig announced: "We do have, in a tragic, tragic story, some good news coming out of Southport this morning. Some of the children have been released from hospital."

Gyles responded enthusiastically: "Which is fantastic. The only good news to be seen out of this is first of all the heroism of some of the people who were involved who were trying to help save the children," reports the Mirror.

"Then the fact that the hospitals have been able to help, and two have come out of hospital today, which is fantastic news. It's also news, of course, that the suspect has now been named in what was an unusual court move."

The judge had no choice but to name the 17 year old assailant due to the rampant speculation causing public upheaval, as he clarified: "The reason he was named even though he's 17 and therefore underage was because the judge came to the conclusion that so much ill-informed rumour had gone round that was fuelling this public unrest."

In the aftermath of the Southport tragedy, Alder Hey has been a beacon of hope, announcing: "We are delighted that two of the children involved in Monday's awful incident have now been discharged."

Their heartfelt message continues, providing an update on the young patients: "We continue to treat five children involved in the devastating incident in Southport on Monday, including one recently transferred to us from Aintree University hospital. All the children in our care are currently in a stable condition."

Leanne Lucas, a 35 year old yoga instructor, and John Hayes, a 63 year old businessman, showed tremendous courage during the attack, both sustaining severe injuries in their attempts to confront the chaos. They were previously described to be fighting for their lives in critical condition earlier this week.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
