University Challenge contestants mistake UK as part of EU

Quiz enthusiasts are in for a treat as the BBC has confirmed the return of three fan favourites - University Challenge, Only Connect and Mastermind. These popular quiz shows have been absent from our screens for some time but will be making a triumphant comeback on the same night.

Traditionally, Monday evenings have been the go-to slot for these challenge-based shows on the BBC. From Monday, August 12, viewers can once again enjoy their favourite quizzes in their usual Monday evening slots, reports The Sun.

Mastermind, a staple of the BBC for over half a century, will kick off the proceedings at 7:30pm with Clive Myrie, 59, at the helm. The show features four contestants facing two rounds - one on a specialised subject of their choice and another general knowledge round.

At 8pm, Victoria Coren Mitchell, 51, will resume her hosting duties on Only Connect. Known as one of the toughest quiz shows on television, Only Connect has been airing for over a decade.

Teams compete in a tournament format, finding connections between seemingly unrelated clues, reports the Mirror.

Finally, at 8:30pm, Amol Rajan, 41, will once again search for Britain's brightest student minds on University Challenge. Rival teams from top UK institutions will tackle challenging questions on subjects spanning human thought, achievement, and global culture.

TV host Amol Rajan couldn't contain his excitement when he gushed: "It's been a summer of great competition on our screens, with high drama, tense finishes and shining talent. And the thrilling new series of University Challenge continues in that vein."

He added: "The standards are high, the students are magnificent, and the starters for 10 as addictive as ever. Please join us!"
