Fans have been left fuming at the BBC for failing to broadcast Andy Murray's final match. The tennis legend, alongside Team GB's Dan Evans, faced off against American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in the men's doubles quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics.

The three-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic gold medallist had previously announced his retirement following the Paris Games.

At 37, Murray has had an illustrious career and expressed his pride on X before the Olympics: "Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament. Competing for Great Britain have been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I'm extremely proud to get to do it one final time! ".

With the knowledge that the quarter-final bout against the USA could be Murray's swansong, fans were brimming with anticipation.

The British duo began their match around 7.30pm, but the BBC had switched its coverage to a swimming final immediately after Simone Biles clinched gold in the all-around gymnastics event.

Adding insult to injury, the match was also delayed on the BBC's iPlayer service, sparking outrage among viewers who missed the chance to witness the icon's farewell performance.

British tennis fans were outraged as they saw Andy Murray's possible final match cut off by the BBC for a swimming event, sparking a flurry of heated comments across social media.

One user vented his discontent, remarking: "Are BBC for real? Leaving potentially Andy Murray's last match randomly for some swimming. And it doesn't seem to be available on another of their channels? ".

Another took to Twitter to express confusion and dissatisfaction: "Why is @BBCiPlayer showing me swimming where it should be showing me the Andy Murray match? Also why on earth is it not just live on BBC 1 right now, now that the gymnastics is finished?"

An annoyed fan commented: "Andy Murray's last ever tennis match and you've got the gymnastics on instead of him. This is why people hate the bbc, pathetic decisions being made."

Another also chimed in, criticising the coverage: "@BBCSport just watching Andy Murray in the doubles, and you stop to show more swimming, meanwhile more gymnastics on BBC. There are more sports than just swimming and gymnastics. Poor coverage."

Meanwhile, one user pointed out the questionable prioritisation of the sport events: "@BBCSport so Andy Murray playing tennis is less important than gymnastics or a swimming race that no Brit has a chance of winning. Really bbc?"

In the end, the American duo got the better of Murray and Evans. Although the BBC did finally begin showing the match on BBC One, by then it was already deep into the second set with Murray and Evans on the brink of defeat.

The US side had swiftly clinched the first set with a 6-2 lead and proceeded to decisively win the second set at 6-4.

After the match, an emotional Murray showed his appreciation to the audience before exiting the clay arena through the tunnel.
