Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice reportedly has a "bombshell" recording of his former BBC partner Amanda Abbington who quit last year's series just five weeks into the competition.

According to The Sun, Giovanni has audio of Amanda apologising to him for being a "nightmare".

In the exchange, the Sherlock actress allegedly acknowledges she can be difficult and essentially thanks the pro dancer for "putting up with her".

This conversation lasts for just under seven minutes, the newspaper claims, and it is understood to have been recorded as part of Strictly rehearsal footage.

The report claims Giovanni believes the recording - alongside other messages - will help clear his name. Express.co.uk has contacted Amanda and Giovanni's representatives for comment.

Earlier this year, Amanda, 50, accused Giovanni, 33, of being abusive in training, leading to her parents John and Patsy admitting they are consumed with worry.

Her father recently told Mail+: "I'd feel sorry for him if Amanda wasn't the one involved in this.

"Like other dancers on Strictly, he was put in a situation where he was expected to train people when he'd not been taught how to train."

"They were let out of dance school at a young age. Giovanni started Strictly at 21 or 22. How on earth can you train people when you've not been trained to do that?"

Giovanni has "rejected any claim" of abusive behaviour towards Amanda during their Strictly rehearsals.

His legal team shared in a statement: "Giovanni rejects any claim of threatening or abusive behaviour, and having provided the BBC with his evidence, is confident that the review will prove this."

The team added: "We would urge people to wait for the review's conclusion and not to pay heed to very serious and defamatory allegations that have no evidence in support of them."

Amanda gave her first televised interview about her experience on Strictly Come Dancing in a tearful interview with Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Wednesday.

She broke down while discussing the “brutal, relentless and unforgiving” criticism she has received since launching her complaint against Giovanni.

The mother-of-two claimed her children, Joe, 18, and Grace, 16, had been the target of vile death threats during the interview.

Amanda also opened up about the ordeal on Thursday's instalment of Lorraine which was hosted by Christine Lampard.
