Naga Munchetty takes cheeky swipe at co-star

BBC Breakfast fans are up in arms over the schedule shake-up and disruption to the news.

Chiefs, of the broadcasting giant, decided to cut short Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on Saturday (July 27), this to make way for the Olympics 2024 which kicked off yesterday with its epic opening ceremony in France, Paris.

Viewers of the morning fan-favourite were so unhappy with the proposed switch-up that they vowed to boycott the channel altogether. Taking to X - which was once Twitter - unhappy fans filed their complaints. One person said: "Olympics, I switched it off and went to bed #bbcbreakfast."

Another added: "bbc breakfast as everyone who is bothered by the Olympics will be staying on BBC1, maybe @bbcbreakfast you could actually focus on news rather than sport after 8am."

A third user penned:"@BBCNews you’ve cut #bbcbreakfast short! Can’t the Olympics wait till 9? Or put it on News24?" While a fourth also moaned:"#bbcbreakfast I might as well do my big shop at 8:00am.. #OlympicGames."

Despite the hosts' time on-air coming to an end, quicker than normal with the segment wrapping up at 8am, instead of the normal allotted time of 9am, Charlie and Naga remained in high spirits about the Olympics which would go on to dominate the channel.

Charlie told viewers: "Lots to look forward to today, the Olympics are officially underway," as Naga interjected to conclude the programme, she said: "Hence we will be leaving you now but of course, BBC Breakfast will be back tomorrow for 6am. Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend."

Meanwhile, superstar Lady Gaga faced disaster during her performance at the opening ceremony after the weather proved not to be on-side. The singer and songwriter had no doubt been advised that the forecast had already indicated it was likely to be a washout, given the clever use of a large prop.

The Star Is Born actress hired eight dancers to take to the stage with her, the performers using a massive pink feather to conceal the icon, not only did the prop act as a weather shield but it also gave off a striking effect as cameras filmed from above the venue.

According to weather experts, Meteo-France, the downpours across the French capital are predicted to continue for 15 days, with some of the Olympics organisers describing the situation as a disaster.

"I'm embarrassed that the world sees us like this. This should be a very proud day for France, not a day for sadness and annoyance," Hermance Bonjasson, 42, told MailOnline.

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am and can be streamed via iPlayer.
