BBC The Repair Shop fans in tears as children's toy labelled 'a wreck' totally restored

BBC's The Repair Shop made for emotional viewing on Wednesday night (July 17) after a toy train was completely transformed.

The toy item belonged to Kate Humphries who received it as a gift from her father. But unfortunately, Kate's father recently passed away after suffering a stroke.

Determined for his memory to live on, Kate longed for her own children to have the happy memories that she once had with the same train.

However, the toy needed a lot of work as it was described as a "wreck" by The Repair Shop workmen.

Tasked with giving the toy a new lease of life was expert Dominic Chinea who had his work cut out for him.

After realising that the wheels would be a problem, Dominic also noticed that the paintwork was also an issue - as he realised that the original colours of the wheels were blue and not green like once deemed.

Despite the shaky start, Dominic was keen to get the train looking spanking new and later on in the show, the astonishing reveal left Kate and her young daughter Agnes gobsmacked.

Returning to the repair shop to see the new train, Kate was brought to tears while expressing that her dad would have loved the new version. She said: "I think it would have meant the world to dad. It's beautiful. It's absolutely beautiful."

Fans who were watching at home were also lost for words and brought to tears by the restoration.

Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter, one viewer said: "In awe of the work carried out by the specialist craftsmen & craftswomen on #TheRepairShop."

Another teary-eyed viewer penned: "Yet again (& again & again!) #TheRepairShop has me in floods! The ride-on train has destroyed me!"

A third also said: "That's me gone," followed by a caring gif. While a fourth added: "Oh my goodness. The work that went into the Train Repair! Phenomenal."
