Suspect is gearing up for a thrilling return to our screens with its second series launching on Channel 4 on Thursday, July 17, and there's already buzz about a third instalment.

Ben Miller, age 58, reprising his role as Detective Superintendent Richard Groves, will be back in action alongside Anne-Marie Duff as Dr Susannah Newman. The upcoming series will feature a fresh cast as the plot veers into new territory.

Miller has spilled some beans on the future of Suspect, teasing the potential for a third season. He suggested that his character might play a role in the upcoming series but kept the details under wraps.

Quizzed about Detective Groves' return in the third series, Ben teased: "I wouldn't rule it out. You know, still waters run deep. I don't know. Yeah. As I say, he's a seasoned star, and is a mysterious character. And just what his involvement is or isn't quite hard to fathom at this stage. I think it's safe to say, (and I don't think this is a spoiler) that he does appear to be involved. But to what extent he is, we don't really know."

Ben clearly relishes playing Richard, having called him a "character with his heart in the right place and yet he's a suspect like all of the characters," reports the Mirror.

He has also lauded Suspect as a "really exciting show".

Ahead of the launch of series two, Ben shared his excitement: "I just find it a really exciting show. I love thrillers and this is about as thrilling as it gets. There's a sort of ever widening circle of light revealing more and more intrigue. I really like the structure of it from an acting point of view. It's very unusual the way that it's shot. It's shot in very long takes with this sort of long, in depth two hander scenes. You can really dig into the psychology. It's very much digging into the psychology of the characters."

The second series will introduce Anne-Marie Duff as the new lead character, Dr Susannah Newman, who embarks on a desperate search for answers following her daughter's tragic death. The plot thickens when a new client, Jon Fallow (played by Dominic Cooper), makes a chilling confession under hypnosis, leading Susannah on a dangerous mission to save a life.

The official synopsis for the series reveals: "When a mysterious new client Jon (Cooper) admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and intends on killing another young female that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs."

"When he escapes before the police arrive and as her former lover Detective Superintendent Richard Grove is refusing to take action, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save Sapphire's life, the way she couldn't do with her own daughter."

Suspect season 2 premieres on Wednesday, July 17, at 9pm on Channel 4.
