Vera confirms the return of beloved characters in major series announcement

ITV has unveiled which actors will join Brenda Blethyn in the concluding series of Vera, heightening anticipation for the detective drama's finale.

A spokesperson revealed to Chronicle Live: "The core regular team will return alongside Brenda - David Leon, Jon Morrison, Rhiannon Clements, Sarah Kameela Impey and Riley Jones."

Adding further intrigue, it was hinted that while a specific air date remains unsettled, viewers can expect the last two episodes in 2025.

This news emerges following worries from fans that Rhiannon may not reprise her role due to conflicting professional engagements.

While plot details remain tightly guarded, Brenda and Riley recently surprised fans by posting on social media that they had wrapped up filming their closing scenes, reports Chronicle Live.

Riley shared an image of Mark Edwards at his desk under a simple caption on X: "Case closed."

Meanwhile, Brenda, known as DCI Stanhope in the show, posted: "Travelling home after finishing filming of Series 14 of VERA. Tired and emotional."

Their followers responded swiftly, many expressing sadness over the conclusion of the popular series.

One fan responded to Brenda, saying: "Looking forward to hearing about your next venture once the lids on the tin of film for the final episode of Vera. Don't forget about Northumberland once you leave us .. you know you're an adopted northern lass now so come back any time."

In response, she affirmed: "I fully intend to. I love the place."

Reacting to Riley's post, one fan gushed: "Thank you, Riley. It's been a real pleasure watching you in #Vera. Loved how you developed your character; you had some cracking lines that made us smile as well as bringing the chips in too late!! We'll wait to see what's next for you."(sic).

Vera will return to ITV in 2025.
