Coleen Rooney has revealed her embarrassment when husband Wayne Rooney decided to flaunt his new tattoo dedicated to her at a party. The pair became an item at 16 and soon after, Wayne proposed in 2003 with a £46,000 emerald-cut diamond ring when he was just 18.

Their union was sealed five years later, with an opulent ceremony in Portofino where the music was provided by none other than Westlife and Stereophonics. Now parents to four boys, Kai Wayne, Klay Anthony, Kit Joseph and Cass Mac, the Rooneys have celebrated 17 years as husband and wife.

Coleen has said Wayne had been convinced they were destined for a lifelong partnership from their relationship's early days. Yet, a particular episode left her squirming with discomfort.

Sharing the awkward memory on the Stick to Football podcast, alongside Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, Roy Keane and Ian Wright, Coleen said: "We were going to an 18th. One of our friends was turning 18 - he was a bit older than us. And that day, I got a phonecall and it was his (Wayne's) cousin.

"He said, 'Do you spell your name with one L or two Ls?'. I was like, 'One L, why?'. He went, 'Oh I'm just in the town with our Wayne, he's getting a tattoo'. I was like, 'Oh, whatever'." After a brief period of laughter from the studio, Coleen added: "So I walk in, and here he is with his top up like that going round every table in the thing.

"And I was like, 'Ah I feel ashamed here, he's got it. He has got it'. And he said, 'No, it's fine. We'll be together forever'." Scott sent Coleen into further peals of laughter as she asked: "Did you tell him you spell it with two Ls?"

Neville then shed light on another permanent mark of friendship sported by Wayne - a tattoo honouring a longtime inside joke among friends. With a chuckle, Neville said: "He's got the one on his back with 'then' on it as well.

"That always makes me laugh that one. So basically, him and his mate, when they were younger, like 16 or something, they used to have this saying, 'Okay then'."

Coleen interrupted: "They used to get a drink and they used to go, 'Okay then' like with their drink." Before Neville continued: "And his mate's got 'okay' on his back, and Wayne's got 'then'. It's the greatest tattoo of all time."
