Coleen Rooney knew Wayne Rooney was going to propose at the early age of 17 but has admitted she didn't expect him to pop the question in a petrol station. The Rooneys share one of football's most famous romances, and the story of how the Manchester United legend asked her to be his wife emphasises its uniqueness.
After meeting in Croxteth, Liverpool, at the age of 12, the pair started dating when they were 16 and are still going strong 23 years later.
Their relationship's longevity can partly be attributed to Wayne's decision to put a ring on Coleen's finger just a year after they officially got together.
In 2003, Rooney was making headlines as England's latest wonderkid at Everton, winning the hearts of the nation with bags of goals in the infancy of his career.
The following year, United made him the world's most expensive teenager by completing a £30million transfer - and the rest was history.
The same can be said for his relationship after he got down on one knee at a petrol station, having initially planned to ask for Coleen's hand in marriage at a Chinese restaurant.
She revealed the brilliant story during the "Letters from Home" challenge on the popular ITV show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, in which she finished as the runner-up.
In a new interview on The Overlap's Stick to Football podcast, Rooney explained she was relieved Wayne didn't offer her the £46,000 emerald-cut diamond ring in the restaurant.

"That's right [Wayne proposed to me at a petrol station]. We were only 17, and we were going for a Chinese," she told Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, Ian Wright and Roy Keane.
"I can't remember whether we were arguing or something, but I said that I didn't want to go for Chinese.
"So, we stopped at the petrol station, then he went in, came out, [got down on one knee] and said 'I was going to ask you when we were at the Chinese' – now I'm glad he never asked me when we were out for a Chinese!
"Then we went back to my mum's and had corned beef hash. He's not very good at keeping secrets, so I knew it was going to happen – I didn't think it would be then."
One would need a 2,000-plus-word feature to run through the headline-stealing moments from Wayne and Coleen's relationship.
And the 38-year-old also opened up on how the England icon committed for the long-term by getting her name tattoed on him - although he had to double check how to spell her name.
Coleen added: "We were going to a party as one of our friends was turning 18, who was a bit older than us.
"That day, I got a phone call, and it was his cousin who asked me if I spelled my name with one L or two L's. I said one L and asked why, and he said he was in the town with Wayne, who was getting a tattoo!
"He walks into the party with his top off, showing everyone – I felt ashamed. He told me it was fine because we were going to be together forever."
