Chelsea’s surprise Premier League title bid has stalled in recent weeks and Enzo Maresca must now get his side’s season back on track. The Blues have not won in the league since December 15 and may need further reinforcements this month.

Maresca brutally culled a bloated squad during the summer and there is likely room for an addition or two. Reports suggest that Chelsea are happy to make further sales to fund more transfers.

One of the more high-profile transfer links is Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, whose deal at Old Trafford expires in 2027. But there could be further arrivals at Stamford Bridge.

Express Sport rounds up the latest Chelsea transfer news…

Mainoo wins seal of approval

Cole Palmer has seemingly endorsed Chelsea’s interest in England team-mate Mainoo by liking an Instagram post about the story. It has been claimed that the Blues lead the race to sign the 19-year-old if he decides to quit Man Utd.

Instagram user @TheSecretScout1 asked their followers if Mainoo joining Chelsea would be a good move. Palmer gave the post a thumbs up.

United are desperate for Mainoo to extend his contract but the Daily Mail claims that the player’s representatives are asking for £200,000 per week. The figure would reflect his status in the first-team squad and his rise internationally, having played in all of England’s knockout matches at Euro 2024.

Those discussions are said to have stalled in a concerning update for United. Players who have less than two years remaining on their contracts tend to harbour increased influence over their future.

‘Next Fernandez’ eyed

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono. The midfielder has a £38m release clause at River Plate.

Mastantuono, 17, is one of the most highly rated stars in South America and has interest from all over Europe. TeamTalk report that Chelsea are ‘working hard’ to make a move possible.

The player does not turn 18 until August, so would not be able to formally join Chelsea in January.

Potter interest

Graham Potter is set to return to the Premier League nearly two years after his departure from Chelsea. And the soon-to-be West Ham boss might be eyeing some of his former stars as he seeks to improve the Hammers, who have sacked Julen Lopetegui.

Chelsea’s squad looks very different from when Potter was axed in April 2023 but there are several stars who might be of interest. According to the Independent, one of those is outcast midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the £30m summer signing from Leicester.

The report claims that Dewsbury-Hall’s switch would likely be a loan agreement.
