Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon ahead of Friday's deadline, according to reports. The Gunners are said to be keen on adding a new forward to their ranks before the summer window slams shut.

They have reached out to discuss a possible move for Gordon, according to the Daily Mail, with Arsenal sporting director Edu thought to be a keen admirer. The winger excelled at Newcastle last season, chipping in with 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

However, it is said that Gordon is poised to stay at Newcastle beyond Friday's deadline with Arsenal likely to make an approach next summer instead. The Magpies have reportedly opened talks regarding a new and improved contract as a reward for his brilliant form last season.

Gordon is thought to be happy at Newcastle and enjoys working under Eddie Howe, while his young family are settled on Tyneside and would prefer not to relocate hundreds of miles away at short notice.

He was targeted by Liverpool earlier in the window, with the Reds firming up their interest after his involvement with England at Euro 2024. However, a move failed to materialise and Liverpool ended up turning to other targets, eventually signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

Howe recently made it clear that he wanted to avoid losing any of his players ahead of Friday's deadline, saying: "At the moment, keeping players is a success, as I sit here today. I think everyone's just trying their best to improve the squad.

"We will wait and see what happens over the next few days. Of course, it only takes one player to make a window a success or failure, however people view it."

Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell is reportedly determined to keep hold of Gordon, with Howe also desperate for the winger to stay at St James' Park. It means he will stay with the Magpies for at least one more season, although his future beyond that is less clear-cut.

Arsenal, therefore, will need to switch their focus elsewhere if they want to sign a new wide forward before Friday's deadline. They have been linked with a potential move for Bayern Munich ace Kingsley Coman, who is also said to be a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia.

It has been reported that Coman could be on the move for around £34million, a relatively modest fee for a proven winner of his calibre. He has three years left to run on his current deal at Bayern, where he is said to be earning around £300,000 per week.
