Strictly Come Dancing: 2024 series teased in BBC trailer

The wait is finally over as this year’s Strictly Come Dancing celebrities have been put into their professional pairings.

During the launch show, BBC viewers saw a glimpse of what was to come as the line-up took part in a large group number to Dance Yourself Dizzy by Liquid Gold.

However, it looks as though there could be trouble for one Strictly Come Dancing contestant as they’ve been dealt a crushing blow ahead of the first live show.

According to the latest odds, former football pro Paul Merson could be the first person to be eliminated from the programme.

With odds at 9/4, he could be making an early exit with Nick Knowles close behind with odds of 3/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Paul Merson will already be praying for extra-time if the latest odds are anything to go by."

The 56-year-old has been paired with Karen Hauer, who told the BBC she wants Paul to enjoy the entire experience.

She said: “I want everyone to enjoy themselves because this is one of the greatest experiences – we're going to have the most fun!”

The Strictly pro has revealed their first dance together would be an American Smooth to Vindaloo by Fat Les.

Speaking about taking part in the show, Paul confessed he’s going to fully throw himself into it.

When asked if he was happy to be matched with Karen, the longest-serving pro, he replied: “Yeah, I’m well happy.

"So pleased. You’ve put the two oldest together… and I’m one of them!”

Although Paul could find himself in trouble, it looks as though JLS star JB Gill has already been backed to raise the Glitterball.

He's been given odds of 7/2 to win the entire competition, with Love Island's Tasha Ghouri following close behind with odds of 4/1.

JB has been matched with Amy Dowden following her return to the BBC show after battling cancer.

Speaking about her comeback, the Strictly pro said: "I’m delighted, it just feels like my first year all over again. I just want JB to have the best time and fall in love with dancing.”

Strictly Come Dancing's first live show will air on September 21 on BBC One from 7pm.
