On Tuesday's instalment of BBC Breakfast presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay halted the show to bring viewers some breaking news.

Sally informed people: "A man has been charged with murdering the wife and two daughter's of the BBC racing commentator John Hunt.

"Carol Hunt and her daughters Hannah and Louise were killed in their home in Bushey in Hertforshire in July this year."

Jon added that a 26-year-old man named Kyle Clifford has been charged with their murders.

The harrowing attack happened on July 9, with Clifford being discovered the following evening injured in a cemetery in Enfield.

Along with being charged for their murders, he has also been charged with one count of false imprisonment and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.

According to the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old will appear remotely at Westminster Magistrates' Court at 10am on Tuesday (September 17).

While Clifford received treatment for injuries in the hospital, where he was under arrest, authorities were unable to interview him.

Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for CPS Thames and Chiltern, said: “Our thoughts remain with the Hunt family and all those who have been affected by this tragic incident.

“As criminal proceedings are active, there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online that could prejudice the defendant’s right to a fair trial.”

Speaking about the death of his wife and two daughters, John Hunt, a BBC racing commentator, thanked people for the outpouring of support both he and his daughter Amy were receiving.

In a heartbreaking tribute, he said: "The devastation that we are experiencing cannot be put into words.

"We would like to thank people for their kind messages and for the support we have received in recent days. These have provided great comfort to us for which we are very grateful.

"As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for us, and we need time and space to come to terms with what has happened and start the grieving process."

A minute silence was held out of respect for the three victims at a horse racing event the week after their deaths at Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk.

The jockey's also wore black armbands with Sophie Albe, racecourse general manager saying they wanted to show support to Mr Hunt.

She told the BBC: "John is part of our racing family, racing is a very special community and we wanted to let him know that all of us here are thinking about him during this difficult time."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
