Strictly Come Dancing star Jowita Przystal is back on TV tonight as BBC’s hit dance sensation returns for its 2024 series.
The professional dancer, 30, has become a firm fan favourite since leaving her native Poland to join the BBC dance spectacular.
Jowita was first brought to Strictly fans’ attention when she was paired with Hamza Yassin on the 2022 series and since then her popularity has only risen.
From her relationships to her on time on Strictly, there’s a lot BBC One audiences may not realise about the pro dancer, who is set to be partnered again with one of this year’s new celebrities.
Although the pairings are not yet confirmed, it could be anyone from Pete Wicks to Jamie Borthwick or Nick Knowles who take Jowita arm in arm in the Strictly ballroom this year.
Is Jowita Przystal in a relationship?
Jowita Przystal was previously in a long-term relationship with her dance partner Michael Danilczuk.
According to their website, the couple met in 2013 at a summer dance camp in Krakow, Poland. It also mentioned that they didn’t like one another at first but after spending a year in partnership they fell in love.
In 2015, they ended their competitive career but carried on working together at Burn The Floor while travelling around the world and performing.
Jowita competed on The Greatest Dancer alongside Michael and they were both now based in London.
But by 2023 they had broken up, and Jowita was in a brief relationship with fellow Strictly star Giovanni Pernice, who will not be returning this year after a controversy about his training methods, which he strictly denied.
Jowita’s ‘really difficult’ admission
It’s not always plain sailing for Jowita behind the scenes. Audiences may not realise that the Polish bombshell is often anxious about one thing before a live show, and in fact has a bit of a superstition about what she has to do before the show goes live.
She told the BBC: “I think I’m just trying to breathe. And always, before I go on stage, I need to play my favourite song. It depends because sometimes it’s a different song; it’s never the same song. With each of my partners, I had one song, and if I go alone or do group dances with professionals, I have my own song. I always play it. Also, I’m sorry to say this, but I always feel like I need to use the bathroom just before getting on stage!
“It’s horrible because our costumes are sewn in, so it’s a challenge to go to the bathroom. It’s not like a two-minute job. If you wear tights, it’s really difficult, but I manage to sort that out.”
