The popular BBC series Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is set to return to screens later this month. The show, which follows comedians Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse as they explore the UK's countryside and fish in various locations, has been a huge hit with audiences.

The new series, which consists of eight episodes, will premiere on BBC Two on Sunday, September 22 at 9pm. The show's editor, Doug Bryson, confirmed the news online, telling fans that they "don't have much longer to wait" for the new series.

In the upcoming series, Mortimer and Whitehouse will visit a range of locations, including Derbyshire, Newark, Bedfordshire, North Norfolk, and Northern Ireland. They will be joined by their trusty dog companion, Ted.

Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing has been a huge success for the BBC, with the last series attracting a large audience on iPlayer. The show's Christmas special, which was filmed in Norway, was also a hit, becoming the fourth biggest factual series on the channel in the last 12 months.

The BBC has already commissioned an eighth series of the show, which will air in 2025. Each episode will feature a different location, chosen for its personal significance to either Paul or Bob, reports the Mirror.

The show will also explore a range of themes, with the two comedians sharing personal insights and experiences with each other. Paul Whitehouse humorously remarked: "I can't wait to get back to Gone Fishing with that other bloke in tow," and Bob Mortimer chimed in with: "I'm looking forward to visiting old haunts from my younger years as Paul and I will be travelling back in time for this series, going to fish in places which shaped our lives."

BBC Commissioning Editor Patrick McMahon said: "We're so happy to welcome Paul and Bob back for another slice of fishing, friendship and riverbank philosophy. Following their adventures and spending time in their company is always a treat, and this series promises to be the most personal and pleasurable yet".

Executive Producer Lisa Clark said "I'm so delighted we can continue to showcase our beautiful country in the company of Paul, Bob and Ted of course."

She also added with a touch of humour: "There's so much more to explore for both man and beast with plenty of muck for Ted to roll in and Bob to fall over, while Paul quietly concentrates on the fishing in hand."
