The National Television Awards (NTAs) were on everyone's lips this morning, as the star-studded ceremony attracted a string of top celebrities, including GMB's own Kate Garraway.

However, some viewers took to Twitter to rage that the coverage was detracting from issues such as the cuts to pensioners' winter fuel allowances, as they called for more balance on the news show. This morning's show did include some coverage of serious topics like weight loss jabs for kids, which some branded "child abuse" and Keir Starmer's 10-year plan to overhaul the NHS, while Health Secretary Wes Streeting was invited into the studio for an interview.

Susanna Reid and Ed Balls also had a heart-wrenching conversation with the tearful mother of a 13-year-old who died last year after being given dairy at a coffee shop, despite staff being warned that she had a severe allergy. However, when it came to the NTAs coverage, some fans had already had enough.

"Pensioners can't even heat their homes and @goodmorningbritain going on about NTAs," one viewer took to Twitter to complain. "Bigger issues than over paid celebs getting gongs #goodmorningbritain #gmb," they added.

One fan said: "Susanna 'click bait' Reid working hard to keep viewers from switching from #GMB to other stations." Another Brit echoed: "Enough of the NTAs ... mostly overpaid celebs congratulating themselves. Bigger issues."

"It's clear we're going to be beaten over the head with the NTAs all morning long #gmb #lorraine #ThisMorning #loosewomen," a fourth viewer groaned.

Meanwhile, others were puzzled by the magnetism the celebrities had been having on the night.

One exclaimed: "A report on #GMB about the #NTAs. Does anyone else think these fully grown adults who go to stand outside a building to watch other adults walk into it are utterly bizarre?"

Ed Balls exchanged banter with Susanna Reid, telling viewers at home that he'd been her "security guard" on the night, while she thanked him for "carrying her" from the 02 Arena to avoid her making a longer walk than necessary in her heels.

Meanwhile, Susanna insisted: "I have to offer an apology to Ed. He said to me, 'Do we have to go black tie?'... and I thought he meant not slouching around in Sunday attire!"

However, Ed proved happy with his outfit in the end, telling the nation "I thought it was snatched! No cap, I loved my drip!"

The show itself revealed results that surprised some, with Stacey Solomon's Sort Your Life Out beating Jeremy Clarkson's show Clarkson's Farm to the first award of the night, in the factual entertainment category.

Meanwhile, Kate Garraway drew attention when she arrived in a high street-bought suit, before going on to dedicate her own award to late husband Derek Draper, who sadly died after complications from long Covid.
