This Morning: Ross Kemp asked if he'd return to EastEnders

EastEnders legend Ross Kemp has kept mum on the buzz about his potential comeback to the beloved soap, stating: "I can tell you nothing."

The 57-year-old actor, famed for his portrayal of the formidable Grant Mitchell, graced Albert Square from 1990 to 1999, made a return in 2005 and briefly in 2006, with his last appearance being in 2016. Despite fan speculation about his return for the soap's 40th anniversary, Kemp has remained elusive.

During an interview on ITV's popular daytime programme This Morning with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, the conversation inevitably turned to the swirling EastEnders rumours.

Alison probed the star, pressing: "Now I can't let you go until we ask you about the EastEnders rumours. What is going on, are you going back for the 40th anniversary. Tell us what's going on."

Kemp was cryptic in his response, simply saying: "I can tell you nothing," reports the Mirror. Not deterred, Alison responded: "But never say never." Dermot chimed in with a quip: "She is wearing a wire too."

Prompting laughter from Kemp, who retorted: "Exactly I know." Reflecting on the show's milestone, he added: "I am very proud of the show celebrating 40 years and I wouldn't have had a career, good or bad without it."

Ross expressed his enduring fondness for the show, saying: "I absolutely love it and I still support it and I would if I had come from Coronation Street or Emmerdale, well I was in Emmerdale Farm briefly before but yeah, I am proud the show is celebrating the 40 years and I will continue to support it as long as I can."

He then concluded with: "I can say no more than that." Alison was in the midst of sharing her thoughts when the iconic EastEnders theme tune began playing.

Dermot couldn't contain his excitement, exclaiming: "Oh they've just smashed it out the park." Alison then added: "If I was a producer I would bring you back."

These remarks come amidst speculation stirred by EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw, who intimated that the 40th anniversary might see the comeback of some legendary figures.

Chris Clenshaw previously teased potential comebacks in a conversation with The Sun, stating: "Maybe. It all depends on the story and where the characters are. But it has to come from character, it has to come from story."

This Morning is on ITV weekdays at 10am and on ITVX
