Antiques Roadshow was a scene of astonishment as a guest discovered her jewellery collection, initially thought to include costume pieces, was worth a staggering £25,000.

In the BBC episode set against the backdrop of Cromford Mills, Derbyshire, one visitor presented an array of jewellery, including a ring she had assumed was costume jewellery and had bought for £200 years prior.

The guest was curious about another item's resemblance to platinum, which expert Joanna Hardy confirmed was indeed platinum with diamonds.

The woman mentioned spending £1,500 on the rest of her collection, leading Joanna to appraise it at £15,000. But the revelations didn't stop there; Joanna estimated a brooch in the assortment at £5,000 to £7,000 and another at £3,000 to £5,000, with an additional ring valued at £2,500.

The total value of the entire collection was an astonishing £25,000.

Overwhelmed by the valuation, the guest exclaimed: "Oh never! Sorry, I nearly swore! Really? My goodness me!" In disbelief, she added: "I just can't believe this. Crumbs, crumbs!"

Joanna shared in the excitement, expressing how the discovery had made her day and thanking the guest profusely, reports the Mirror.

Fiona Bruce, the host of Antiques Roadshow, recently shared a behind-the-scenes incident that was deemed too harsh to air on television.

The 60-year-old TV star recalled an instance where a hopeful guest was given a brutal reality check about his supposed antique.

Speaking to The Guardian, Fiona remembered how a well-dressed man enthusiastically presented a glass bottle he had bought for £1,000 in an antique shop. However, the atmosphere turned tense when the show's glass expert inspected the item.

The expert informed the owner: "I'm afraid it's an empty olive oil bottle. Tesco, circa 2008. It's worth nothing at all."

Despite acknowledging that the incident would have been hilariously entertaining for viewers, Fiona felt it was too harsh to broadcast.

She explained: "I suppose we could have broadcast it but it was just too cruel. The guy was devastated. There's a tiny bit of my brain that realises it would have made great television. But it's just not what the show's about. Poor chap, poor chap.

"The thing is, if you come on the Roadshow we are not about to humiliate you. The thing about Antiques Roadshow is not to humiliate people."
