Lorraine host steps in as Tim Minchin swears on show

Lorraine's guest host, Ranvir Singh, had to issue an apology on Friday's show after an unexpected expletive slipped out.

During the show, Ranvir, 47, was chatting with musician and Matilda the Musical composer Tim Minchin on the ITV programme. The conversation took an awkward turn when Tim, 48, inadvertently used the word "b******s" while discussing tours and ticket prices, prompting Ranvir to interrupt the interview to apologise for the language used.

Ranvir interjected with: "Oh hello, we got there and you said it. Apologies for the swearing!" Meanwhile, at the beginning of their talk, Tim mentioned that his eyes felt strange following a segment about eye health earlier in the show. He remarked: "It's so funny, I think all that talk has made my contacts sort of migrate, anyway!" to which Ranvir then encouraged him to adjust his contact lenses and joked they had a doctor nearby if needed.

Back in 2023, Tim stunned his audience by sharing some devastating personal news while performing on stage. The British-Australian comedian and musician was in Sydney for his show An Unfunny Evening with Tim Minchin and his Piano, entertaining a crowd of 2,000, reports the Mirror.

The performer received a standing ovation at the end of the show, but then revealed some heartbreaking news as he returned to the stage for an encore.

Addressing the crowd at the time, Tim took a deep breath before announcing: "My mum died yesterday," as gasps were heard around the State Theatre in the Australian capital. Tim told his fans he wanted the show to go on, despite his heartbreak, before launching into one of his most popular songs, White Wine in the Sun.

While singing the lyrics: "I’ll be seeing my dad, my brother and sisters, my gran and my mum … they’ll be drinking white wine in the sun," the star's voice began to break before he ended the show asking the audience to help him sing one final song for the night, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

The theatre’s lights were switched off during the stirring song, with many concertgoers in tears as they sang along with Tim, quietly in the darkness.

During the performance, Tim shared a number of stories from his life and played a variety of popular songs he’d written from Matilda the Musical, Groundhog Day the Musical, and his album So F***ing Rock. The Darkside star also shared stories about his mum, Ros, including her diagnosis with terminal blood cancer in 2020, and played a variety of songs he had written about her.

Lorraine continues on weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITV X.
