The Tower: Police realise Ryan has knife during talk in flat

The opening scenes of episode two of ITV's The Tower featured a witness to a crime being questioned while concealing a knife. Despite this DS Sarah Collins (Gemma Whelan) didn't arrest him.

However incredulous viewers took to X to comment on the moment as they were left baffled. @Simo21537664 asked: "Having a big knife? Is that normal now.#thetower."

@OliReading commented: "#TheTower clever place to hide a knife." They also added: "#TheTower chatting to police with a knife in your pocket," with an "eeek" emoji. @DebbieBlackma14 opined: "I only recently heard of the term Zombie knife and have no idea what it means #TheTower."

Meanwhile @MCIJ13 took umbrage at the writing in general commenting: "So glad that this is back on. But is the script a bit cheesy? #TheTower."
@yasmin_ali10 had no complaints though and was loving the drama writing: "#thetower every new series just get better and better #series3."

The contentious scene saw Sarah tell the young man called Ryan: "You're not a suspect. You're a witness."

As he protested he didn't know anything Sarah tried to reassure him but pointed out he made them nervous with the way his hand moved.

"I think you've got a knife and it's not against the law for you to have it in here but I think we'd feel a lot better if it was out in the open."

As he surrendered his weapon it became obvious it was an illegal zombie knife which Sarah pointed out.

"I'm not going to arrest you, but we will have to keep it," she told him.

This new series is set almost two years after the season two finale and is airing over four nights this week.

Although the show is devoid of the famous tower in this latest instalment, it features returning cast members such as Gemma Whelan in her role as Met officer DS Sarah Collins and Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw.

For viewers who can't wait until Thursday to see how it ends, all episodes are available to watch on ITVX.

The Tower continues on ITV on Wednesday September 4 at 9pm.
