BBC Breakfast: Robert Lindsay discusses his time at RADA

BBC Sherwood actor Robert Lindsay left BBC Breakfast viewers all saying the same thing as he appeared on the show to speak to Ben Thompson and Luxmy Gopal.

Robert opened up about appearing on the hit show, which is on its second series, his acting experience and wanting to do a Nottingham accent for the show, leaving the pair fascinated.

But it was one story about Robert's time in acting school RADA, which featured a teacher pointing to his testicles, that really got viewers talking, as even Ben admitted he was surprised at the turn the interview had taken.

Robert said: "Just before I went to RADA, I was working in a sewer as a sewage worker and I got into RADA during that time, and I remember I told my workmates, and they were really fascinated until I got to the items I needed, which included two pairs of ballet tights, ballet shorts, ballet pumps, make-up and a make-up box. My foreman told me well if all else fails, you can be a beautician."

He continued: "I came out in these ballet tights, and met this formidable lady named Madame Federer, and she was a former Russian ballerina.

"She got the whole class to parade in their ballet tights and she picked on me and said 'you must walk from the bowels,'" before telling him off for calling her miss.

Robert added: "I clenched in my bowels so tight, and she pointed at my testicles and said "no from the bowels, so as well as changing my vowels, I had to change my bowels."

Ben awkwardly laughed before saying: "I didn't think we'd get into this at 5 minutes to nine."

As Robert's anecdotes came to an end, one viewer said on social media: "Does anyone know if Robert has been to RADA?"

Another added: "RADA. And testicles. Oh and RADA."

One troll raged: "I didn't quite realise how insufferable one person could be. Wow...that was an awakening. Oh, and RADA."

A fourth swiped: "Robert Lindsay on BBC Breakfast espousing his roots whilst boasting about attending RADA ( even had to explain what that means!)"

But others were more complimentary of the star, as one said: "A great and honest interview on @BBCBreakfast thank you. I totally get the bit about when you are playing a character, you can ace the stage, but being 'you' is something else."

Another agreed: "Robert, brilliant and funny anecdotes on BBC Breakfast."

Sherwood continues tonight at 9pm on BBC1.
