Good Morning Britain was halted this morning as ITV correspondent Marverine Cole issued a breaking news announcement just minutes after pausing the show for another.

The show had been airing a segment on sewage spills aired on Exmouth beach, as Marverine took the reins of the show back to issue an update on the superyacht disaster.

She revealed that the captain of the tragic yacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Sicily last, killing seven people, is officially being investigated.

Marverine said: "Also this morning, in further breaking news, Italian media are reporting prosecutors have placed Captain James Cutfield under investigation after the deaths of tech billionaire Mike Lynch and six other people killed when the superyacht they were on sank off the coast of Sicily last week."

Just moments before, she has issued a breaking news announcement with an update of the Dagenham tower block being engulfed in flames, with 100 people being evacuated.

A fellow correspondent announced that in the last few moments, fire officials had confirmed they'd seen a number of fire safety issues within the building.

40 fire engines attended the scene in the middle of the night, with hundreds of firefighters desperately trying to quell the flames.

Marverine then went on to announce a rolling news bulletin, sharing news of British man Ryan Evans, being killed in an air strike in Ukraine while working, while another three people were killed when power and water supplies were cut in Kyiv.

She then moved on to explain that singer Lily Allen had been slammed by PETA after she revealed she gave up her dog after it ate the passports and visas of herself and her children, costing her a significant amount of money to replace.

Lily has since hit back to insist that the dog wasn't abandoned and had gone to a new home, but PETA urged her not to get another dog after she revealed she was considering it.

GMB airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1
