Peter Capaldi returns as Doctor Who

At the start of the year, Apple TV viewers were gripped by the eight-part crime thriller Criminal Record, from the creator of Vera.

The first series followed newcomer Detective Sergeant June Lenker (played by Cush Jumbo) and seasoned veteran DCI Daniel Hegart (Peter Capaldi) butt heads over an old murder conviction in the heart of the city.

With a man called Errol Mathis being sent to prison for the murder of Adelaide Burrowes, June was adamant the perpetrator was innocent, meaning the real killer was still at bay.

However, as DCI Hegart was the person who led the investigation at the time, resulting in Errol’s conviction, he’s adamant the right guy is behind bars.

As the series went on, it was clear not everything was as it seemed as twists and turns unfolded along the way, resulting in a nail-biting finale.

A synopsis of for the show teases there’s trouble ahead when a political rallys attacked by far-right counter-protestors, with senior officer June Lenker on the scene.

Part of the description reads: “The violent clash leaves a young man dead and June, consumed with guilt, is desperate to bring the unknown killer to justice.
