The BBC has been slammed as "extreme" for their swift sacking of Match of The Day and The One Show presenter Jermaine Jenas after complaints about his workplace conduct.

One of the 41-year-old's female The One Show colleagues accused him of sending her flirty texts, while other women came forward to share that they have also had similar messages from the married ex-footballer.

His axing comes as the BBC is in the midst of scandals involving Strictly and newsreader Huw Edwards. Following news of Jermaine's sacking, barrister and broadcaster Andrew Eborn, told GB News: "I don't like this at all and I'll tell you why.

"I think the BBC have overreacted They've got in trouble over various other cases all the way back to Saville and so on and so forth, did they act quickly enough."

He continued: "This at the moment is only an accusation all the details haven't come out. It's a claim. He was on television, last night, I think on Talk, basically saying there are two side to every story so he's denying it, but everyone's rushed... and as we've learned "

But he didn't deny it, the host shot back, to which Andrew pushed back: "But he said 'there's two sides to every story, the claim hasn't gone all the way through.

"There's context and what we've learned through all these things, we drip feed and trust in the media is at an all time low... what the BBC needs to do is to say 'this is our procedure when we have complaints... you have cases like Saville where the BBC haven't acted quickly enough.

"They've gone to the other extreme here and if it's just a claim then it's too early to spread all over the papers and so on and so forth," he added.

Since the sudden sacking, BBC staff have been instructed to avoid any contact with Jermaine. At 3.39pm on Thursday, Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski sent out an email to staff stating: "I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC."

According to insiders, there has since been an additional directive to staff, with a source disclosing to The Sun: "Presenters, cast and crew have all been asked not to contact him whilst legal matters are ongoing."

The source also mentioned: "As a result, a lot of Chinese whispers have been circulating.", reports the Mirror.

The source further revealed: "Not even top talent like Alex Jones, Alan Shearer or Gary Lineker knew about this," adding, "It was shrouded in secrecy. It has shocked, and rocked, everyone."

Until Thursday morning, those working on The One Show were unaware of the situation, with rumours only beginning to emerge then.

Jenas, who has three children with his wife Ellie Penfold and another child from a previous relationship, earned between £190,000 - £194,999 at the BBC for his work on the FA Cup, Match of the Day and the World Cup.

In May, he was honoured with the Women's Football Ally of the Year award. At the time, he said: "I have always supported the women's game. I have three daughters of my own. My mum raised me."

The last time Jenas appeared on the BBC was earlier this summer. A spokesperson for the broadcaster confirmed: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line-up.

"Since then, Jenas has spoken out, maintaining that there are "two sides to every story". In a statement given to The Sun via a representative, he said: "Right now I can't talk about it. I can tell you I'm not happy - there are two sides to every story - and I'm going to be speaking with my lawyers on the issue."
